Fix trigger spring and pinion holders Original 5, 6, 6G, 6M air pistol p.2
Piano wire is beautiful stuff. You can bend it and it still retains
much of its spring and temper. However it only really likes to be bent
once so you need to make a slight bend in the wire with the pliers and try
it for fit.
Once you are happy that it will bend round the trigger,
you can complete the 90 degree bend with the nose of the pliers.
In this case it was a little short so I pulled the pliers back a tad before completing the bend. It left the bend a little rounded but that all helps avopid another break.
It may not be tightly coiled (needs very special machines to do that) but it works just fine.
Here are old and
new for comparison. The guy at the piano shop gave me a couple of feet
of wire for nothing, so I could afford to make a few more if it had
not turned out right.
I thought I may as
well rub out any rough spots on the sear face with fine wet-and-dry
followed with a polishing block.
...and reassemble!
