Fix trigger spring and pinion holders Diana/Original 6, 6G, 6M air pistol p.1

fix6g WIP This Original (Diana) Model 6g air pistol was rather poorly in that the compression washer has disintegrated (and was fixed as per my other article on 6g

It also had a broken trigger spring and the pinion covers not only had no locking screws, the threads were completely stripped.

As this was not a hard working pistol and had very little value I was asked to fix it as cheaply as possible. The washer cost £8 (UK Pounds) and the rest was just TLC.

Whet you need is a length of PIANO WIRE from a piano shop or a model shop, and this one measured at 0.9mm (which I believe is 15.5 gauge). You also need a small vice with smooth jaws, pliers and an old screwdriver.

...and the old spring as a pattern (or a drawing!)
fix6g WIP Grip the wire at the top of the vice jaws with about an inch to one side of an old screwdriver or a piece of rodding which is a loose fit in the old spring.

If you use an old screwdriver make sure it does not have a splayed end or you will not get the spring off afterwards!
fix6g WIP Holding the long end tightly with pliers, and holding it slightly low to keep the coils tight, wind the correct number of turns in the correct direction.
fix6g WIP When you think that you have put on enough turns, relax the pull. The spring will spring open a little, so you will need to wing the wire round a little more.

When you have got the same shape as the old spring, remove from the vice.

Cut the ends as closely as possible to the lengh of the old spring, but where the ends are broken off as with this one, leave enough to replace the broken part.
fix6g WIP Fit the replacement spring and try for size.

In this case there was a right-angle part which fitted round the front of the trigger, so I left about 12mm extra,
